The target audience for this medical event is interprofessional audience, including nurses, physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, and social workers. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.8 Contact Hours.

Course Description:
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks the brain’s nerve cells (neurons), resulting in loss of memory, thinking and language skills, and behavioral changes. An estimated 5.5 million Americans of all ages had Alzheimer's disease in 2016. For Americans ages 65 and older, this prevalence represents one in 10 people; an estimated 5.3 million people who are age 65 and older. This interprofessional continuing education module informs nurses, physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, and social workers about the trends in diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this continuing education program is to inform nurses, physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, emergency medical technicians, and social workers about the trends in the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Discuss how interprofessional collaboration and practice can improve the care and outcomes of people with Alzheimer’s disease
• Identify three key elements in the diagnostic guidelines for Alzheimer’s disease
• Describe two research areas that have enriched the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
• Explain three innovative approaches to the management of care of people provisionally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease
