Description:
Each year approximately one third of ischemic strokes in the United States are classified as cryptogenic. Although many strokes can be traced to cardioembolic, atherosclerotic or lacunar causes, between 10% and 40% are classified as cryptogenic. Because of limited evidence to guide practice, professionals diagnose and treat cryptogenic stroke differently.
This is the first in a series of three webinars that will discuss approaches in diagnosing the underlying cause of cryptogenic stroke, the prevalence of atrial fibrillation after cryptogenic stroke, its role in recurrent stroke; and review current recommendations and controversies for the management of PFO (patent foramen ovale) after cryptogenic stroke or TIA.
Objectives:
At the completion of this online course, the learner will be able to:
• Discuss the most appropriate approach in diagnosing the underlying cause of cryptogenic stroke.
• Discuss the prevalence of atrial fibrillation after cryptogenic stroke and its role in recurrent stroke.
• Identify current guidelines and controversies for the management of PFO after cryptogenic stroke or TIA.
