OVERVIEW

Male osteoporosis remains substantially underrecognized and undertreated despite its association with increased fracture risk, disability, and mortality. Delayed diagnosis, underutilization of screening, and limited awareness of secondary causes of bone loss contribute to missed opportunities for fracture prevention and optimal patient care.

This CME/CE activity will provide clinicians with practical, evidence-based guidance on diagnosing and managing osteoporosis in men. Faculty will review screening and diagnostic strategies, including the interpretation of fragility fractures, T-scores, and Z-scores, as well as the evaluation of secondary causes of osteoporosis, such as hypogonadism and the role of testosterone testing.

Through a review of current evidence and real-world clinical considerations, faculty will examine fracture risk stratification, risk-based treatment selection, and the evolving role of anabolic-first treatment approaches and therapeutic sequencing. The program will also address safety considerations, therapy administration and storage requirements, patient counseling, and strategies to support long-term adherence.

This education will equip clinicians with practical strategies to improve diagnosis, optimize treatment decisions, and enhance outcomes for men with osteoporosis.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this activity, learners will have:

1. Increased knowledge of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical features of male osteoporosis.

2. Improved competence in recognizing diagnostic triggers, applying screening tools, and establishing timely referral pathways.

3. Enhanced confidence in selecting and sequencing pharmacologic therapies, integrating evidence from pivotal clinical trials.

4. Strengthened skills in patient engagement and communication to support adherence, long-term disease management, and quality of life.
