Description:
The complexity of the foot and ankle joints require a varied and often time unique set of surgical procedures. These patients often prove to be challenging when trying to formulate a safe discharge plan. This program will provide a review of relevant anatomy, indications for surgery, surgical considerations and implications for physical therapy along with specific treatment guidelines.

Learning Objectives:
HSS Continuing Education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Identify foot and ankle anatomy and biomechanics
  • Describe common indications for foot and ankle surgery
  • Differentiate various foot/ankle procedures and the surgical implications
  • Implement rehabilitation principles following common foot/ankle procedures.

Physical Therapists: 
Hospital for Special Surgery is a New York State Education Department approved provider for physical therapy continuing education. This course is approved for a maximum of 1 contact hour.

This activity is provided by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners Accredited Provider 2512063TX and meets continuing competence requirements for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant licensure renewal in Texas.
