A Stepwise Approach to Analyzing Pulmonary Functions: ABG, PFT, and Spirometry is organized by National Association for Continuing Education (NACE) and will be held during Aug 23, 2017 - Aug 22, 2018.
The target audience for this medical event is Primary Care Providers, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Respiratory Therapists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
This workshop aims to provide a structured approach to arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation while also increasing your understanding of a potential etiology for an acid-base disorder. The real value of an ABG comes from its ability to provide a near immediate reflection of the physiology of your patient, allowing you to recognize and treat pathology more promptly.
ABG interpretation can be perplexing to a provider, although an imbalance can lead to severe complications from the lack of homeostasis of the body and thus become a life-threatening event. There are many methods of ABG analysis, but the ultimate goal is complete comprehension to allow easier interpretation and ultimately make an impact on your patient's outcome. A 6-step structured approach is reviewed during this presentation, which will allow a different approach to analyze an ABG. Each component of an ABG will be reviewed including what each component represents, and various compensatory mechanisms. To practice and confirm the provider's comprehension of the steps of ABG interpretation, and the physiological principles behind blood gas analysis, actual patient case studies will be utilized and reviewed.
Conference Objectives are :
• Compare the roles of pH, PaC02, and HC03 in maintaining acid-base balance.
• State one cause of Respiratory Acidosis, Respiratory Alkalosis, Metabolic Acidosis and/or Metabolic Alkalosis.
• Identify normal arterial blood gas values and interpret abnormal values.
• Explain the physiology behind the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs.
• Interpret PFTs from asthma and COPD to fixed and variable obstructive abnormalities, as well as interstitial and other restrictive diseases.
• Identify common errors with performance of testing.
• Discuss the indications for spirometry as an office based procedure.
