Description:
The opioid epidemic – what is it, and how did we get here? This course provides provide pharmacy technicians with a history of the steps that led to the opioid epidemic. Hear discussion on the potential harms of opioid medications and how pharmacy technicians can be part of the solution.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
• Define the opioid epidemic and identify its contributing factors.
• List common opioid medications and the adverse drug side effects that may impact a patient's health.
• Summarize the mechanism of action for opioid medications.
• Explain the role of naloxone in reversing opioid induced respiratory depression.
• Propose strategies by which pharmacy technicians may contribute toward resolving the opioid epidemic.
