Program Description:
This educational activity is comprised of an expert commentary interview that highlights the most pertinent content from the Dyslipidemia/Atherosclerosis Session at 2018 CMHC West meeting. Christie Ballantyne, MD and Marc Sabatine, MD, two leading experts in the field, discuss the PCSK9 inhibitor cardiovascular outcomes trials, FOURIER and ODYSSEY Outcomes, and the relevance to treatment of ASCVD in the every day clinical setting. During the module, the efficacy and safety of PCSK9 inhibitors, particularly the safety of very low LDL-C is also discussed. Concluding the module, Dr. Ballantyne and Dr. Sabatine examine the future of LDL-C reduction in patients with high risk of ASCVD with a discussion on emerging agents. Overall, this module will equip health care providers with the knowledge necessary to address the clinical challenges in non-statin drugs and new approaches. Downloadable transcripts and slides will also be provided to the learner.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Identify appropriate lipid management strategies for patients at high risk of ASCVD
• Describe the efficacy and safety of current and emerging agents for dyslipidemia
