2017 Quarter 4 - Terminating the Patient-Physician Relationship: Navigating Appropriate Notice, Difficult Patients, Closing a Practice, and More is organized by Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) and will be held from Dec 01, 2017 - Dec 01, 2020.

Target Audience:
This 2-hour activity is intended for physicians of all specialties who are interested in practical ways to reduce the potential for malpractice liability.

Course Description:
One of the unique challenges of practicing medicine is deciding when the patient-physician relationship has reached the end of the road. Coming to the conclusion that it is time to part ways with a patient is never easy for physicians and is often accompanied by conflicted feelings. While medicine is a business, it is a business that comes with an ethical duty to patients.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this educational activity, the reader should be able to:
• recognize common reasons for termination of the patient-physician relationship;
• identify circumstances that may preclude or complicate termination of the patient-physician relationship;
• develop strategies to terminate the patient-physician relationship when appropriate;
• discuss ways to manage a difficult patient; and
• describe the steps to terminating a patient-physician relationship due to retirement, leaving a practice, or closing a practice.
