Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT) - Recognition, Prevention, and Management

Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT), also known as shaken baby syndrome, is a form of child abuse that results in severe brain injury and remains a leading cause of fatal head trauma in infants. This 1.5-hour CE course equips Registered Nurses (RNs) with the skills and knowledge needed to recognize, prevent, and respond effectively to suspected cases of PAHT. Nurses are often among the first healthcare professionals to encounter signs of abuse, making their role in early identification and intervention critical to saving lives and preventing long-term damage.

This course covers the clinical presentation of PAHT, including red flags, symptom patterns, and mechanisms of injury. It also explores the legal obligations of nurses as mandated reporters and outlines the appropriate steps to take when child abuse is suspected.
