Course Description:
Rheumatology Cases on the Web (COWs) is an online case-based series that provides an in-depth review of basic and clinical aspects and the effect of recent advances in rheumatic diseases. Expert faculty offer succinct cases on biologic safety, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathies, and lupus, as well as the rationale for both right and wrong answers within each case.
The Managing Glucocorticoid Induced Osteoporosis in Rheumatology case reviews osteoporosis in inflammatory rheumatic disease settings, including current guidelines in clinical practice for steroid-induced osteoporosis
Conference Objectives are :
• Determine which patients on glucocorticoid therapy need treatment with an osteoporosis medication.
• Summarize current American College of Rheumatology (ACR) recommendations for the prevention and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
• Review the use of the absolute fracture risk assessment model within the ACR recommendations.
• Decide on treatment options to prevent bone loss and fractures in patients on glucocorticoid therapy.
