OVERVIEW

Legal and ethical responsibilities are foundational to safe and effective nursing practice. This 2-hour CE course on Jurisprudence for Registered Nurses (RNs) provides a clear understanding of the legal framework that governs the nursing profession, including relevant state laws, federal regulations, and professional standards of care. Nurses will gain essential knowledge of the roles of nursing boards and regulatory agencies in safeguarding public health and maintaining professional accountability.

The course examines the ethical and legal principles fundamental to patient care, including informed consent, patient confidentiality, and end-of-life decision-making. It highlights real-world scenarios involving legal pitfalls—such as documentation errors, breaches of confidentiality, and scope-of-practice violations—and outlines proactive strategies to avoid them. Participants will also learn how to navigate disciplinary processes and understand the potential consequences of noncompliance with nursing regulations. This course fulfills the Texas Board of Nursing’s jurisprudence CE requirement for license renewal and is ideal for nurses seeking to enhance legal literacy and protect both their license and their patients.
