Course Description:
Group therapy is at the heart of addiction counseling because it is only within the context of a group that an addict can find the hope and help necessary for the best chance at recovery. However, today’s addiction group therapy is much more complex than the “good old days” of just providing a basic support. Clients and their issues are much more complex, necessitating the need for the counselor to increase their skill level and have a broad base of knowledge and techniques from which to draw. 

This workshop focuses on training in group therapy for addiction counselors with experience in group work. Themes include group theory, working with difficult and complex situations and clients (e.g. dual diagnosis), projection and projective identification, and how to utilize the appropriate group style based on the group's configuration and level of functioning
