Overview:
“Emergency Medications Every Dentist Should Know” is a four-part continuing education series that covers the most common emergency medications found in most proprietary dental emergency medication kits. Every dentist should periodically review the uses of emergency medications and be familiar with these medications themselves, then share this information with his or her staff.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Proper medication labeling with “Tall-Man” lettering
  • The basic anatomy and physiology of the autonomic nervous system
  • Safe medication practices
  • The function of autonomic neurotransmitters and receptors
  • The physiology of blocking acetylcholine receptors with anticholinergic medications
  • The adrenergic receptors, their natural agonists and emergency medication agonists
  • The physiological effects of adrenergic receptors on arteriolar smooth muscle.
