OVERVIEW

Cultural competency is a critical skill for nurses working in today’s increasingly diverse healthcare environment. This 2-hour CE course for Registered Nurses empowers participants with the knowledge and tools to deliver respectful, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care. Through this training, nurses will learn to define cultural competency and understand its pivotal role in reducing health disparities, increasing trust, and improving outcomes.

The course explores various dimensions of cultural diversity, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, socioeconomic background, gender identity, and more, and how these factors influence healthcare experiences. Participants will develop communication strategies that embrace cultural differences and learn how to work effectively with interpreters and multicultural teams. Practical applications include adapting care to meet cultural preferences, handling ethical challenges with sensitivity, and fostering inclusive environments that prioritize equity and equality. This course fulfills cultural competency CE requirements for nurses in the District of Columbia, Oregon, Connecticut, and Illinois.
