Breaking Through Depression Course is organized by Genesis Continuing Education (CE) Group. This course has been approved for a maximum of 9 CE Credit Hours.
Course Overview:
A Biblical and Medical Approach to Emotional Wholeness
This book uses models of body, mind, and spirit to describe the problem of depression and what can be done to overcome it. The 'brain' models are constructed of cellular structures and chemical networks. The 'mind' models are built on a foundation of three basic emotional needs. However, models of the body and mind are not enough for those with spiritual awareness. For them, a holistic model must include the role of the 'spirit' in illness and healing. The spirit models in this book are based on problems that can develop in our relationship with God and on steps that may spark a revival. This book provides a vision of life on the other side of depression.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the clinician will be able to:
• Explain the roles of the brain, stress hormones, and neurotransmitters in the development of depression.
• Articulate the roles of genetic inheritance and environmental influences in the development of depression.
• Enumerate three core emotional needs and understand how unmet needs contribute to depression.
• Name six spiritually-oriented personality problems and explain how they contribute to depression.
• Identify the 5 steps in the SMART Model and understand how this model blends medical, mental, and spiritual elements into a holistic process of recovery from depression.
• Formulate how to help clients actively use the SMART Model in the treatment of their depression.
