Statement of Need:
With an estimated 1.7 million new cases per year, esophagogastric cancers—consisting of cancers of the esophagus, stomach, and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ)—are an aggressive group of malignancies with a poor prognosis. The results of recent trials, including the MATTERHORN trial for resectable gastric and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, are rapidly improving outcomes in esophagogastric cancers, making it critical for the interdisciplinary care team to stay up to date on biomarkers and tailored treatment strategies (Li et al, 2023; Yu & Mehta, 2025; Janjigian et al, 2023). In Module 2 of this podcast, Yelena Y. Janjigian, MD, Chief of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, will discuss strategies for optimizing treatment of esophagogastric cancer.
