Course Topics:
• Cardioembolic Stroke/Subdural Hematoma
Assess the relationship between atrial fibrillation and cryptogenic stroke; Use markers of atrial cardiopathy for early identification of patients at risk for stroke; Choose between anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy for secondary prevention of stroke; Determine the optimal therapy for mild, moderate, and severe cases of chronic subdural hematoma; Prolong survival of patients with cancer and subdural hematoma.

• Movement Disorders/Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Prescribe monoamine oxidase B inhibitors in patients suffering from Parkinson disease; Differentiate among catechol-o-methyl-transferase inhibitors used in the management of Parkinson disease; List rescue therapies that are effective in management of Parkinson disease; Cite guidelines from the American Heart Association regarding current standard of care for management of intracerebral hemorrhage; Explain use of the intracerebral hemorrhage score in predicting patient mortality. 

• Intra- and Extracranial Disease/Intracerebral Hemorrhage/Cryptogenic Stroke
Use appropriate imaging modalities for establishing carotid artery stenosis; Compare the risks and benefits of various intervention methods for symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis; Utilize various surgical techniques for the management of intracerebral hemorrhage; Differentiate between various types of cryptogenic stroke; Select appropriate treatment strategies for managing vulnerable plaque and other causes of cryptogenic stroke.

• Covid-19/Intracranial Hemorrhage
Explain how reduction of environmental challenges during COVID-19 might have contributed to improvement in migraine symptoms in children; List elements of psychological first aid; Cite the 3 elements of burnout; Use the modified Dandy criteria to diagnose IIH; Contrast ventriculoperitoneal shunting with lumboperitoneal shunting in management of IIH.

• Migraine Management/Sleep Apnea and Alzheimer Disease
Recognize the importance of multidisciplinary care in the management of intractable headaches; Compare various techniques for managing intractable headaches; Distinguish between intractable and refractory migraines; Apply therapeutic algorithms for managing refractory migraine; Elaborate on the bidirectional relationship between OSA and Alzheimer disease.

Malignant Stroke/Monoclonal Antibodies
Explain the Monro-Kellie doctrine and its importance in malignant stroke; List treatment options in malignant stroke; Administer mannitol in treatment of malignant stroke; Use monoclonal antibodies in patients who have failed multiple preventive medicines; Administer atogepant in patients with episodic migraine.

Update on Sleep Medicine
Distinguish among the structural and physiological factors that contribute to the development of OSA; Evaluate the feasibility of a creating a polygenic risk score for OSA; Assess risk for cardiovascular and metabolic disease among different subtypes of OSA; Consider telehealth as a means of reducing patient and provider costs related to treatment of OSA; Increase compliance with continuous positive airway pressure therapy through use of eHealth interventions.

White Matter Disorders/Clinical Wellness
List categories of diseases that are associated with changes in white matter; Relate findings of white matter changes on imaging to cognitive deficits; Recognize the effects of reserve on clinical manifestations of brain disease; Diagnose toxic causes of white matter dementia; Implement strategies and tactics for addressing physician burnout at the organizational level.

• Stroke Prevention in Women/Pediatric Neurology/polypharmacy for Patients With Spinal Cord Injury
Identify risk factors for stroke in women; Manage conditions associated with an increased risk for stroke in women; Develop strategies for primary and secondary prevention of stroke in women; Use the 4-topic method in consideration of ethical questions associated with medical decision making; Reduce polypharmacy in patients with spinal cord injury.
