OVERVIEW

Wounds Beyond the Body: Treating Trauma Through the Lens of Moral and Soul Injury is organized by Higher Thought Institute (HTI) and will be held on Nov 07, 2026.

Description:
Trauma has many faces. Complex trauma is marked by radical shifts in the individual’s sense of self, worldview, and meaning and purpose. There is no one-size-fits-all approach in the treatment of trauma. This presentation explores trauma through the lenses of moral injury and soul injury, emphasizing the deep psychological, emotional, and spiritual wounds that occur when individuals experience or participate in events that transgress their core moral beliefs or values. Unlike traditional models of trauma, which often center on fear-based responses, moral and soul injuries highlight the complex inner conflicts related to shame, guilt, betrayal, and a loss of meaning or identity. Through case examples and reflective dialogue, this session aims to equip clinicians with practical tools to support clients navigating the invisible wounds of moral and soul trauma, particularly in military, healthcare, and first-responder populations.

Learning Objectives:

  • This presentation will define the distinctions between PTSD, Moral Injury, and Soul Injury
  • This presentation will discuss the impact of unresolved moral and soul injuries on mental health, including depression, PTSD, spiritual distress, and suicidality.
  • This presentation will provide clinicians with evidence-informed therapeutic tools that foster healing through reconnection with meaning, forgiveness, community, and self-compassion.
