Description:
As many as 35 million men and 21 million women in the United States suffer from hair loss. While hair loss in and of itself is not life threatening, it can be indicative of autoimmune disease and other serious underlying conditions. Hair loss can also be devastating for an individual and may lead to depression, anxiety, and social phobia. There are many different reasons for hair loss, and Naturopathic Doctors need to be able to correctly diagnose the condition in order to provide effective treatment. This presentation will educate NDs about the types and causes of hair loss and will offer updates on the latest evidence-based naturopathic and allopathic treatment options.
Objectives Topics:
After the presentation, participants will be able to confidently:
• Describe the phases of the hair growth cycle.
• Distinguish between non-scarring and scarring hair loss.
• List causes of scarring and non-scarring hair loss.
• Identify botanical 5-alpha reductase inhibitors to help with androgenic alopecia.
