Description:
Medical terminology has been described as a “minefield”.  This is an introduction to give users confidence in hearing and using medical terms.  The course is aimed at relative beginners but could also be a useful revision for people with more knowledge.

Course Content:

• Word parts, build-up and breakdown
• Avoiding common pitfalls
• Distinction between British and American terms (be wary of Google and spellcheckers)
• Pronunciation
• Written exercises to put theory into practice
• Confidence development
• Knowing your limits and when to ask for help
• Chance to discuss and reflect on your own experiences with medical terminology (good or bad)

Aims and Outcomes:

• To increase or revive confidence in hearing and using medical terms
• To learn the basic building blocks for words
• To know when and how to obtain help
