UCSF CME 20th Annual Developmental Disabilities: Update for Health Professionals 2021 is organized by The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Continuing Medical Education and will be held from Mar 25 - 26, 2021.

Accreditation:
UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Family Physicians
The AAFP has reviewed 20th Annual Developmental Disabilities: Update for Health Professionals and deemed it acceptable for up to 13.00 Online Only, Live AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 03/25/2021 to 03/26/2021. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists
Course meets the qualifications for 13.00 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Overview:
This 20th annual interdisciplinary conference offers a unique update for primary care and subspecialty health care professionals and others who care for children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities and complex health care needs. This year’s conference will be live-virtual, employing a live stream webinar and various user-friendly interactive virtual platforms. The live presentations will be recorded and made available for 30 days so you can review any content you might have missed. As in past pre-pandemic conferences, non-profit exhibitors will be available to provide resources to help you to deliver more informed care for patients and clients of all ages.

Presentations by our expert faculty should be of interest to pediatricians, family physicians, nurse clinicians, psychologists, and internists who are involved in the health care of individuals across the lifespan with developmental disabilities, as well as to those in other health-related disciplines including health policy, psychiatry, school health, social work, and case management services. While the conference is designed for health care professionals, we welcome families and individuals with developmental disabilities who wish to learn from the various presentations.

This activity is developed by a community planning and advisory committee made up of self-advocates and representatives from the following agencies: UCSF, Stanford University, The Arc San Francisco, Golden Gate Regional Center, East Bay Regional Center, State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Support for Families, WITH Foundation, and the California Department of Developmental Services.

Live Stream Meeting:
This course will be offered as a live interactive virtual conference. Login instructions along with the digital syllabus will be shared with attendees a week before the meeting. Included in your registration fee is access to the course recordings on demand (available within a week after the conference) for any sessions that you miss, available for up to 30 days post-course.

Objectives:
An attendee completing this course will be able to:
• Approach patient care with an increased awareness of social and cultural differences and disparities, cognitive bias, and implications for healthcare access and quality of care;
• Discuss state and national advocacy, and policy issues surrounding access to care for those with special needs and creating access to healthcare for children and adults with developmental disabilities in the 21st century;
• Describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the developmental disabilities community, the current evidence for prevention and therapeutics, and what to watch for in your patients;
• Identify the legal and health considerations in interactions with law enforcement and people with developmental disabilities, and implement current strategies and resources for safe crisis intervention and to support de-escalation;
• Provide informed healthcare for people with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, Prader-Willi and other developmental disabilities and develop strategies for appropriate referral;
• Counsel individuals and families regarding ADHD, dementia, and other comorbidities of developmental disabilities, and know when and to whom to refer;
• Increase ability to treat common GI conditions in individuals with developmental disorders;
• Better understand how continuing neurologic and genetic research holds promise for putting research into practice;
• Become familiar with educational programs for health professionals to promote advocacy for health equity for all and acknowledge the contributions of the UCSF Office of Developmental Primary Care in those efforts.
