Travel Medicine Review & Update Course is organized by International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) and will be held from Feb 23 - 24, 2024.

Course Description:
The Travel Medicine Review and Update Course is designed to review the ISTM Body of Knowledge for the Practice of Travel Medicine and to highlight recent developments in Travel Medicine. The curriculum will cover topics relevant to physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who provide medical care and advice to travelers, expatriates, and migrants.

The expert faculty will present topics including adventure travel, bites, and envenomation, cases, food and water exposures, ill returning travelers, risk assessment, malaria, special travelers, vaccines, and vectors. The care of special groups such as pregnant women, pediatric travelers, immigrants, VFR travelers, and immunocompromised hosts will also be discussed. Recent developments and advances in travelers’ diarrhea, immunizations, malaria medications, and emerging infectious diseases will be highlighted.

Participants will have ample opportunity to interact with the faculty through interactive sessions and informal discussions.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the current epidemiology of common health risks affecting travelers
• Choose which travelers should receive vaccines relevant for travel
• Discuss the prevention and self-treatment of common travel-related illnesses such as travelers’ diarrhea
• Identify current malaria epidemiology and discuss chemoprophylaxis regimens
• Advise travelers on the prevention of disease, including being able to advise pregnant women, pediatric travelers, immigrants, VFR travelers, diabetics, and immunocompromised hosts
• Recognize illness in travelers returning from overseas travel
