St. Louis PTC - STI Intensive Courses

St. Louis PTC - STI Intensive Courses is organized by National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC) and will be held from Sep 17 - 18, 2026.

Course Description:
This course, an intensive overview of STDs, includes 14 hours of lecture over two days. Topics presented include gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, trichomoniasis, PID, genital herpes, HPV, hepatitis B, chancroid, urethritis/cervicitis syndromes, pediculosis/ scabies, HIV/AIDS, prevention strategies / PrEP / EPT, and case studies.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe clinical features of reportable STDs: syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia.
• Understand current STD epidemiological patterns.
• Describe clinical features of common bacterial STDs:  syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia
• Recognize clinical presentations of common viral STDs:  genital herpes, HPV
• Demonstrate improved skills in completing STD history and physical exam.
• Discuss clinical characteristics of common vaginal infections:  trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis
• Integrate HIV risk assessment into patient care.
• Demonstrate universal precautions during specimen collection.
• Describe current approaches to STD/HIV prevention including pre-exposure prophylaxis and expedited partner therapy.
• Discuss evidence-based strategies for STD treatment, according to CDC’s STD Treatment Guidelines.
