OVERVIEW

Sepsis & Trauma: What Frontline Providers Need to Know is organized by Sepsis Alliance and will be held on Dec 07, 2021.

Target Audience:
Nurses, physicians, pharmacists, emergency responders, healthcare management teams, and other healthcare staff may benefit.

Description:
A 2012-2016 National Inpatient Sample of Hospitalizations analysis by Dr. Afshar et al. on trends, cost, and mortality from sepsis after trauma in the United States revealed that though trends for sepsis mortality have improved over the years, this trend was not supported in the trauma population. In this session, Dr. Afshar will discuss the findings of the retrospective cohort study published in Critical Care Medicine in 2020 and what this means for frontline clinicians needing to recognize and care for sepsis in patients following trauma.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, attendees should be able to:

• Summarize findings of the retrospective cohort study on ‘Trends, Cost, and Mortality From Sepsis After Trauma in the United States: An Evaluation of the National Sample of Hospitalizations, 2012-2016’.
• Restate what frontline providers need to know to recognize and care for sepsis patients after trauma.
• Describe opportunities for improvement in tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of sepsis recognition and care in patients after trauma.
