Performance Support for Doctors in Training Course 2021

Performance Support for Doctors in Training Course is organized by Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) and will be held from May 11 - 14, 2021. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of  4 CPD Credits.

Description:
This course aimed at senior clinicians, responsible officers, clinical directors, medical directors and clinical leads, focuses on managing doctors in difficulty and difficult doctors.

Through national updates, case studies and in depth interactive sessions, this course will support you to identify concerns early, diagnose the issues and ensure effective intervention and support doctors who are experiencing difficulty or demonstrating difficult behaviours.

Format of the course:
• To provide necessary flexibility to potential participants, the College has restructured the course content to enable remote delivery and participation. It will, however, retain interactive small-group elements that enhance the quality of the learning experience. The new format is comprised of:

• Introductory online live session (1 hour) – This will introduce the content, aims and requirements of the course and provide clear instructions on accessing and working through its online learning resources. The introductory session for this course will take place on Tuesday 11 May from 1900-2000.

• Online individual learning (2 hours) – Key elements of the course content will be delivered through online learning (Moodle). This will include video content from tutors and will cover topics including: Recognition and reasons for underperformance, Assessment and management of the trainees with performance problems, Differential Attainment and Providing difficult feedback.

• Live online session (2 hours) – In the final, online session there will be extended reflective discussion of central aspects of the online material as well as interactive case sessions. This online session will take place on Friday 14 May from 1300-1500.

Aims & Objectives:
The course will introduce delegates to the management of trainees with difficulties. Specific guidance will be given in relation to the requirements of GMC, recognition and management of issues, and strategies to overcome commonly encountered barriers.

Learning Outcomes:
• State the requirements of the GMC in identifying and managing trainees with difficulties.
• Identify those features which may indicate a trainee with difficulties.
• List possible barriers to effective intervention.
• Name the formal processes and procedures required when managing trainees with difficulties.
