Description:
This half-day symposium for pediatricians, family physicians and other healthcare providers will showcase the latest approach, updates and research related to several common patient issues confronted by primary care providers as well as newer and more complex diseases. Our speakers will address health concerns, share cases and offer guidelines on how to manage the patient. We are excited to present lectures on musculoskeletal pain, the role early childhood experiences have on development, pediatric autoimmune encephalitis, long COVID, Celiac disease, pediatric Lupus and supplement usage in athletes. 

Learning Objectives:

• Differentiate mechanical from inflammatory joint complaints
• Perform a basic musculoskeletal exam
• Name five diagnoses that can mimic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
• Describe the effects of Toxic Stress, ACE’s and Social Influencers of Health on children’s long-term health and wellbeing
• Recognize how Positive Childhood Experiences and Early Relational Health can help mitigate these negative outcomes
• Provide examples of ways to promote Early Relational Health in Pediatric Primary Care
• Define Autoimmune encephalitis and differentiate it from other types of encephalitis
• Describe epidemiology and pathophysiology of Autoimmune encephalitis and the common clinical presentations and diagnostic criteria
• Review current and emerging treatment options for Autoimmune encephalitis as well as primary care management and long-term care and follow-up
• Review current epidemiology and clinical manifestations of Long COVID in Children
• Discuss risk factors and pathogenesis of Long COVID in Children
• Review therapeutic and prevention options for Long COVID in Children
• Review clinical manifestations of celiac disease and understand who and when to screen
• Review celiac disease lab tests and learn which should be used for screening and how to interpret the results
• Outline the next steps and recommendations to give families when a patient has a positive celiac disease screening test
• Explain the epidemiology and classification criteria in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE).
• Recognize clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus
• Review how ethnicity may influence disease manifestations
• Highlight key pharmacotherapeutic advances in systemic lupus erythematosus
• Explain the idea of potential nutrition gaps  to be filled within pediatric population
• Describe how specific sport, age, gender play a role in determining whether specific supplements are necessary and safe
• Review “popular” supplements that providers may hear about, their relevance and efficacy
