Description:
This one-day symposium for pediatricians, family physicians and other healthcare providers will showcase the latest approaches, updates and research related to several common patient issues confronted by primary care providers as well as newer and more complex diseases. Our speakers will address health concerns, share cases, and offer guidelines on how to manage the patient. We are excited to present lectures on vaccine hesitant families, the updated asthma guidelines and how to manage the severe forms, food allergies, abnormal uterine bleeding, eating disorders, STDs in adolescents, upper respiratory issues and children who may be predisposed to cancer. 

Learning Objectives:

• Describe current state of vaccine hesitancy including lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic
• Identify several evidence-based strategies for addressing vaccine hesitancy in the clinical setting
• Explain how to diagnose asthma
• Identify and manage severe asthma
• Review updated management guidelines
• Utilize knowledge surrounding the public health impact of food allergy and disparities to better counsel patients with food allergy.?
• Practice identifying high and moderate-to-low risk infants to provide guideline informed care for the prevention of food allergy.?
• Apply learnings from recent research to better adhere to prevention guidelines and explore treatment options to counsel families accordingly with accessible resources.
• Identify patients with a genetic predisposition for developing malignant tumors
• Outline the proper process and management of patients at an increased risk
• Review normal menstrual physiology
• Define abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB)
• Discuss differential diagnoses and work up for AUG
• Apply pharmacological (hormonal and non-hormonal) management of AUB to primary care pediatric patients
• Diagnose patients with anorexia nervosa restricting type, anorexia nervosa binge purge type, bulimia nervosa and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
• Conduct an initial consultation for an eating disorder as well as follow up visit
• Determine whether or not a patient is medically stable or needs hospitalization for their eating disorder
• Analyze the prevalence of  STIs in Chicagoland area 
• Apply updated guidelines from the CDC regarding  STI  screening and treatment 
• Differentiate the etiologies of chronic cough and recurrent wheeze
• Identify which diagnostic studies are needed in evaluating chronic cough and when to order them
• Explain first line management for common etiologies of cough and wheeze
