Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training – Bloodborne Pathogens 2022 is organized by Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA).

Description:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens standard has many requirements that pertain to pharmacies, including the use of safer medical devices and an exposure control plan. Pharmacy personnel who have the potential to be exposed to a bloodborne pathogen must meet the requirements of this standard, including annual live training with the opportunity to ask questions, or risk facing fines. This includes pharmacists and others who administer immunizations, provide point-of-care testing involving blood, or who are involved with handling sharps containers. OPA is offering a webinar format for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other employees to comply with this OSHA standard. The speaker will discuss potential bloodborne hazards, safer practices designed to reduce/avoid sharps injuries, and effective post-exposure procedures. This program will provide the opportunity for interactive questions.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify potential bloodborne  pathogens and their mode of transmission
• Describe the hepatitis B vaccination requirements for at-risk health care workers
• Identify the key components of an exposure control plan
• Describe the engineering controls and work flow practices to minimize the risk of exposure
• Outline the appropriate post-exposure response
• Discuss record keeping requirements
