New Developments in the Treatment of Complex Trauma: An Integrated Approach is organized by Professional Psych Seminars (PPS) and will be held on Apr 23, 2022.This Webinar has been approved for a maximum of 6.0 Credits.
Description:
When trauma involves early, repetitive abuse and neglect, followed by later adverse experiences, the outcome may be not only classic post-traumatic stress but also impaired self-reference, dysfunctional attachment schema, emotional dysregulation, and overdeveloped avoidance responses such as dissociation, substance abuse, self-injury and “impulsive” suicidality. Based on significant developments over the last 5-10 years, and his upcoming book, Dr. Briere will address modifications to cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and relational approaches to trauma, as well as COVID-based teletherapy adaptations, new options for intervening in distress reduction behaviors, further modifications to therapeutic exposure, and use of the ReGAIN mindfulness procedure.
Objectives:
• Outline the primary psychological impacts of early, sustained, relational trauma
• Describe the steps of ReGAIN as they relate to deescalating triggered responses
• Define interspersal as it relates to titrated exposure
• List three principles of trauma-focus teletherapy
