This course provides a detailed and practical overview of the principles behind light curing in resin-based restorative dentistry. Through an evidence-based approach, participants will explore the science of photopolymerization and the variables that critically influence its success in clinical applications.
We will begin by understanding the role of light curing units (LCUs) and the chemical events that occur during the polymerization of resin composites. The course will then focus on key factors that directly affect polymerization, such as the compatibility between the light wavelength and photoinitiators, the power output of curing devices, and how exposure time, distance, and angulation impact the quality of curing.
Participants will also learn about the clinical implications of these factors, including how they affect restoration longevity, marginal integrity, and the risk of postoperative sensitivity or secondary caries.
