Description:
To facilitate nurses working across primary and secondary care environments to use an evidence based approach to the management of leg ulcers.

Leg ulcers affect mortality and morbidity, and evidence based knowledge and skills can enhance their management and improve patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals are in a key position to enhance care through the evidence-based approach to leg ulcer management. Action planning will be discussed during the session for how you may achieve competence of your skills in clinical practice.

Course Content:

  • Introductions and objectives
  • Anatomy and Physiology of the skin – Pathophysiology - Leg ulcer formation
  • How to assess a leg ulcer – Strategies and Tools
  • Treatment regimes
  • Case Studies – using the evidence
  • Doppler Ultrasound Technique – Finding Pedal Pulses
  • Bandaging (review of technique – compression will not be used when practicing in line with Health & Safety)
