Learning Objectives:

• You may never have come across a victim of Female Genital Mutilation before. However, with increasing social mobility, the chances are you will come across someone at some point in the not-too-distant future.
• Do you know what the expectations of CQC and the Intercollegiate documents are in managing this form of domestic abuse?
• Do you know what to do if  you see a female patient who is from a country where Female Genital Mutilation is practiced? And what  is she is pregnant and knows it is going to be a girl?  And what if she already has daughters?
• Do you feel confident to broach this sensitive subject in a non-judgemental manner?
• Are you familiar with the tools you can use to help you carry out a risk assessment?
• Do you know what appropriate clinical and safeguarding referrals you need to make to ensure the safety and welfare of women and girls affected by, or at risk of, Female Genital Mutilation?
• Do you know what actions to take under the Mandatory Reporting Duty for under 18s? And the NHS Reporting duty for 18 and over?
• Do you know where to access relevant resources and information about Female Genital Mutilation to support yourself and your patients?
• And following all of that, do you know how you should be documenting and the six codes that you need to use?
• If the answer is NO to any of these questions, then this Level 3 training is for you.
• We will go through a case history together and I will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to deal with the above scenario
