Conducting therapy legally and ethically across state lines continues to evolve, bringing with it the prospect of dramatically expanding the therapy landscape. These changes provide significant new opportunities for therapists. However, understanding and navigating the relevant federal and state laws, licensing rules, and codes of ethics can be a challenge for any therapist. This practical seminar will clearly explain essential issues, provide valuable resources, dispel common myths and misunderstandings, and walk participants through a variety of cross-state therapy scenarios. Participants will leave equipped to make determinations about when interjurisdictional practice is legal and ethical (and when it is not). This seminar is designed for all experience levels of counseling and mental health professionals and assumes a general knowledge of ethics, laws, and licensing rules.This course meets the law and ethics requirement for many states. Objectives:

• Describe how jurisdictional issues affect teletherapy and in-person therapy
• Define the five legal provisions for legally practicing across state lines
• Describe the four scenarios in which interjurisdictional practice takes place
