This conference will provide practitioners with the most recent advances and information to enhance knowledge, skills and performance in the treatment and diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Objectives:
• Recognize patients labeled as “allergic to penicillin” who may indeed be candidates for receiving penicillin or related drugs.
• Identify best practices in the antibiotic therapy for prosthetic joint infections, including oral vs parenteral therapy.
• Limit treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria to situations in which treatment is appropriate.
• List and describe the common HIV tests and their indications.
• List principal advantages and disadvantages of an injectable integrase inhibitor in the prevention and treatment of HIV.
• Identify major changes in the 2024 immunization schedule affecting children.
• Recognize situations other than HIV in which Pneumocystis carinii infection should be suspected.
• Explain why the impact of dengue is changing.
• Select appropriate laboratory tests for the diagnosis of suspected Clostridioides difficile infection.
• Explain the role of new drug therapy options for Clostridioides difficile infection.
