OVERVIEW

From Recognition to Revolution: Transforming Women’s Health Research is organized by American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and will be held on Nov 12, 2025.

Description:
Women’s health research has long faced systemic gaps and underinvestment, but pioneering scientists are changing that narrative. This webinar features Dr. Marlena Fejzo, recipient of the 2024 Science & BII Women’s Health Innovation Prize, who will discuss her groundbreaking discoveries on the genetic and hormonal basis of hyperemesis gravidarum—the severe form of morning sickness—highlighting the hormone GDF15 and her path from personal adversity to scientific breakthrough. Joining her is Prof. Linda Griffith, whose work at MIT has reshaped our understanding of endometriosis and other complex conditions while highlighting the challenges of advancing research in an underserved area. Together, they will explore how innovation, advocacy, and recognition are driving the future of women’s health. The session will conclude with a live Q&A to spark dialogue about the future of women’s health research.

Participants will:

  • Gain insight into key emerging areas of women’s health research and innovation.
  • Explore innovative research approaches addressing gaps in women’s health, including reproductive and gynecological conditions.
  • Identify systemic barriers to progress in women’s health research and strategies to overcome them.
