OVERVIEW

Evaluation and Management (E/M) Chart Auditing Workshop is organized by Practice Management Institute (PMI) and will be held on Oct 27, 2026.

Description:
Ongoing scrutiny of E/M claims from the OIG, government-contracted and third-party auditors make practice self-checks essential. Improve your audit proficiency to reduce practice risk and promote accurate claim submission. Don’t wait until it is too late! Take the steps now to ensure that your coding practices are compliant with the regulations set forth by private and government payors. It is a matter of when not if your medical practice will be the target of an audit.

This course will expand your knowledge of evaluation and management coding audits and instruct on auditing records in accordance with current EM coding and documentation guidelines. Learn how to create a systematic approach to cross-checking records so you can code E/M encounters with confidence. Improve communication with providers and staff about chart documentation and ensure that chart documentation supports the code(s) selected and claim(s) submitted. Understand the criteria used in selecting the appropriate level of service and how to select the level of E/M services based on medical decision making or time. Identify areas of risk leading to E/M over or under coding.

A proactive stance is your best defense against an audit. Avoid audit triggers and implement your own self-audit procedures to monitor E/M claims in your practice.
