Course Description:
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease affecting people of all ages and impacts nearly 20 million individuals in the United States. Patients with diabetes often present with numerous oral manifestations, making it essential for dental practitioners to understand this condition. This webinar will review the pathophysiology of diabetes, commonly used pharmacotherapy, potential adverse drug reactions, and drug interactions. Attendees will also learn about the oral manifestations and complications of diabetes, as well as how to recognize and manage common medical emergencies that may arise in the dental office.

Objectives
At the completion of this dental continuing education (CE) lecture, participants should be able to:

• Recognize the prevalence, incidence, and etiology of diabetes mellitus.
• Understand the pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of diabetes.
• Identify common oral complications, including dental caries, periodontal disease, fungal infections, and salivary dysfunction.
• Learn appropriate dental procedures to optimize care for patients with diabetes.
• Recognize and manage medical emergencies in patients with diabetes.
