Dentistry and the Use of Controlled Substances 2025 is organized by SouthWestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (SWSPD) and will be held on Jun 26, 2025.
Description:
The abuse of prescription narcotics has reached epidemic proportions across the nation. Both national and statewide efforts to combat the problem affect the practice of dentistry across the nation. This course will review safe and ethical ways to prescribe and monitor the use of controlled substances as they relate to dental care and how to manage dental pain consistent with standards of care.
What attendees will learn:
This course matches the controlled substance CE requirement for DEA registration holders (22 Texas Administrative Code §111.1(b)). An attendee can also cross apply the 2 hours to the controlled substance CE requirement for dentists providing direct patient care — 4 hours total for license renewal–(22 Texas Administrative Code §104.1(2)(B)).
This course can be used to satisfy both the new 2-hour requirement for prescribers with DEA permits as well as 2 of the 4-hour biennial requirement for dentists providing direct patient care.
