Crash Course on Getting Research Published is organized by AECS MED and will be held from Sep 11 - 12, 2020.

Course Aim:
To familiarise participants with the principles of reporting of meta-analyses,Randomised trials and observational studies for successful publication of research articles.

Objectives:
• Develop an approach directed towards use of reporting guidelines for preparing manuscripts of research articles for submission to a journal
• Learn about critical appraisal of the evidence collated in systematic reviews (meta-analysis) and primary research concerning effects and associations
• Become comfortable with enhancing the applicability of research findings using clinically meaningful measures of effect and association for incorporating research into practice
• Understand the editorial assessment and peer-review process.

Course Introduction:
Publication is the currency with which medical careers make progress at every level, determining the outcome of appointments and promotions. Most doctors, even those trained in research, frequently face rejection from medical journals.

Professor Khalid Khan, with over 24 years of editing experience including 6 years as Chief Editor, will deliver a course directed at healthcare staff at any grade giving them the tools, tips and tricks with which to prepare and submit convincing manuscripts for publication. He has successfully delivered these courses to a worldwide audience including the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, Mongolia, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, Kenya, Tanzania, Argentina, and the EU (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Spain, Italy).

The teaching and learning strategies employed in this course include key note lectures and interactive small group work. This approach is meant to be participant-centred, problem-based, systematic and integrated to maximise the chance of getting accepted for publication on first submission of the manuscript to a journal.

Research publications should underpin evidence-based medicine. Editors, peerreviewers, research funders, ethics committees, doctoral thesis examiners, clinicians, patient representatives, policy-makers and health insurance providers all look for features that help achieve this end.
