Description:
The Therapeutics in Dentistry, Pain & Pain Management CPD Masterclass explores the fundamentals of pain biology, with a particular emphasis on pain arising from the stomatognathic system, with an appreciation of the complexity of pain occurring in this system and the difficulties in accurate diagnosis.

There will be a review of the best means to take a “pain history” and the processes involved in identifying the correct diagnosis as well as considering the differential diagnoses.  There will also be a review of the therapeutic approaches, in particular the medications used for the management of varying types of complex oro-facial pain encountered in clinical practice.  The session will finish with a review of the best approaches to managing acute dental-related pain and postoperative pain in the era of rising concerns about the appropriate use of narcotic analgesics in dental practice.

• Improved understanding of the complexity of pain arising from the stomatognathic system
• An approach to the diagnosis and consideration of the differential diagnosis of pain arising from the stomatognathic system
• Therapeutic approaches to managing complex oro-facial pain
• Review of the “opioid crisis” and the implications for the safe and appropriate prescribing of  analgesic agents in dental practice
