OVERVIEW

Becoming an Asthma Educator and Care Manager (BAECM) Course is organized by Association of Asthma Educators (AAE) and will be held on May 20, 2021.

Accreditation:
AnMed Health designates this “live activity” for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ . Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacy
The University Of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE# 0046-9999-21-115-L01-P/T provides 4.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit.

Nursing
This program has been planned and implemented in accordance with the requirements of the California Board of Registered Nursing. The Association of Asthma Educators is an approved provider (#13605) of continuing education in nursing. This activity meets the criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements, and the participant is awarded 4.0 contact hours.

Respiratory
This program has been approved for 3.0 contact hours Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) credit by the American Association for Respiratory Care.

Description:
This course is dedicated to teaching participants to holistically approach the education of patients and families with asthma

Core topics include:
• Asthma prevalence
• Goals of therapy
• Pathophysiology
• Controlling factors that contribute to severity - monitoring symptoms
• Pharmacotherapy - medication administration
• Co-morbidities
• Optimizing Education

Learning Objectives:
• Describe the Burden of Asthma in the US
• Outline key components of Asthma management from the EPR-4 NHLBI Clinical Asthma Guidelines.
• Optimize inspiratory flow for given inhalation devices.
• Evaluate patients and caregivers’ educational need and select management tools to optimize partnerships in care.
