Antimicrobial use in Intensive Care and the emergency department is organized by European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and will be held from Feb 24 - 26, 2026.

Description:
In critical care settings such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Emergency Department (ED), the appropriate use of antimicrobials is paramount to improving patient outcomes and combating the rise of antimicrobial resistance. This course aims to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) tailored specifically to the unique challenges and dynamics of the ICU and ED environments.

Objectives: 

  • Discuss core elements and trajectories of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes (ASP) with special emphasis on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Present the ICU as an attractive field of action for ASPs.
  • Discuss infections that are typical in the ICU.
