Footprints as Forensic Clues: The Science of Criminal Footprint Analysis
The 6th session of the ACPM journal club will feature Michael Nirenberg, DPM, FACPM, and explore the intersection of podiatry and forensic science through the study of footprint evidence in criminal investigations. This session examines current research on the biomechanics and individuality of human footprints and reviews scientific methods used in comparative footprint analysis. Real-world criminal cases highlighting the role of footprint evidence in linking suspects to homicides will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain knowledge of the individuality of human footprints in the forensic/criminal context.  
  • Learn the key biomechanical and morphological features that contribute to the individuality of human footprints.  
  • Learn how to measure footprints, and the gain insight into the challenges of measuring a footprint.
