Educational Objectives:
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
• Implement appropriate proficiency testing programs to ensure the quality and accuracy of molecular diagnostic tests for viral diseases.
• Describe how clinical and public health laboratories can better partner to prepare for and respond to outbreaks of viral diseases.
• Define how point-of-care testing may impact patient diagnosis and management over the next decade, and describe the role of laboratory professionals in this evolving area of diagnostics.
• Identify the advantages and limitations of metagenomics, and discuss whether this technology is poised to become a first-line diagnostic approach for viral infections over the next decade.
