18th Annual Diabetes Symposium: Diabetes Update 2025 is organized by The Texas Heart Institute (THI), Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and will be held on Jun 28, 2025.

Description:
The 18th Annual Diabetes Symposium is a 1-day virtual course. The purpose of this symposium is to update health care providers with state-of-the-art information regarding evaluation and treatment of patients with diabetes. Information is constantly evolving, and physicians lack knowledge related to the most effective treatments for patients with diabetes as well as the role of newer treatments in preventing cardiovascular and renal complications of diabetes as per the guidelines published by the ADA. In addition, they should understand the use of SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with diabetes and heart failure, newer strategies for weight loss in obese patient, and the management of diabetes in hospitalized patients including the use of continuous glucose monitors. The symposium will also address new diabetes technology for insulin delivery and understand the advantages (e.g., reduction in hypoglycemia) with newer technology and insulin formulations. Physicians should effectively identify the adverse effects of diabetes therapies and identify additional practice gaps that should be addressed in the future.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this symposium, participants should be able to:

Describe novel and optimal therapies for treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Discuss and generate evidence-based treatment strategies for management of type 2 diabetes based on recently published clinical trials regarding cardiovascular and renal outcomes with SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Explain comprehensive strategies for cardiovascular risk reduction in type 2 diabetes.
Describe the role of newer insulins in the management of diabetes.
Incorporate effective weight reduction treatments in the management of obese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Develop and implement effective strategies for the management of hyperglycemia in hospitalized patients.

ABIM MOC Credit
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 8.75 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
