OVERVIEW

UHM Journal-Based CME Volume 50, Issue 2 is organized by Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).

Date of the activity’s original release: August 23, 2023
Termination date: August 23, 2026

Goal:
For over 45 years the UHMS has been the primary source of information for hyperbaric medicine and physiology worldwide. This evidence based, peer-reviewed scientific journal-based CME has as its goal to address identified professional practice gaps and provide a quality CME opportunity which will improve scientific knowledge and skills for undersea, hyperbaric and wound care physicians, nurses and technicians, and other clinicians and personnel whose practice includes undersea, hyperbaric medicine and wound care.

Objectives:

  • Understand the need for revision of the Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF) air dive tables and the aim of the study in developing new tables.
  • Gain knowledge about the probabilistic models and deterministic algorithms used in the study to estimate the risk of decompression sickness (DCS) and neurological decompression sickness (CNS-DCS) during direct ascent air dives.
  • Understand that reported narcosis-like symptoms are not only explained by classic “narcosis” mechanisms, but other freediving specific understanding.
  • We propose another term to address the narcosis-like symptoms encountered during free diving FTCI: Freediving Transient Cognitive Impairment
  • Understand the importance of early HBO2 therapy in patients with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL).
  • To describe the impact of early HBO2 therapy on hearing loss and tinnitus in patients with idiopathic SSNHL.

Designation Statements:
Physician CME: The Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society designates this journal-based activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category I Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing/RRT Contact Hours: 3

License types: RN, LPN, CNS, ARNP, CAN. Provided through the Florida State Board of Nursing and the CE is reciprocal for nurses in the United States. Florida nursing credits are reciprocal and approved for nurses within all states. Receiving credit for Florida providers is simple, attend the course and our staff will upload your credits directly to the Florida State database. For out of state credit, we provide all the necessary paperwork for you to file with the respective nursing board.

NBDHMT: This journal-based activity is approved for 1 Category A credit hour (Proposed Thalmann algorithm air diving decompression table for the Swedish Armed Forces) and 1 Category B credit hour (Sudden hearing loss and early hyperbaric oxygen therapy: A preliminary study) by National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, P.O. Box 758, Pelion, South Carolina 29123.

NBDHMT Accreditation Statement: For CHT recertification purposes, the NBDHMT requires a minimum of nine of the minimum 12 required Category A credits relate directly to any combination of hyperbaric operations, related technical aspects and chamber safety.
