Course Description:
Chairside CAD/CAM systems allow the dentist to design and mill restorations in the dental office, usually during a single dental appointment. This affords a significant improvement in efficiency and convenience for the patient as there is no need for a temporary restoration or a second appointment to deliver the final restoration. This Quality Resource Guide (QRG) includes a description of the available chairside CAD/CAM systems, CAD/CAM clinical workflow, and the restorative materials available for chairside CAD/CAM systems.

It also discusses the use of a chairside CAD/CAM system: as a pre-operative 3D diagnostic tool for optimizing the surgical placement of the implant; to create a surgical guide for implant placement, and; for in-office design and fabrication of custom abutments and restorations for implants. A table provides the dental office with the available block materials for each chairside CAD/CAM system. This QRG is an important reference for the dental office that is assessing the integration of chairside CAD/CAM technology into the care system. It also provides background information for the clinician to answer patients’ questions regarding the role of these techniques as part of their dental care.
