Mosquito-Borne Viral Diseases is organized by MediaLab, Inc.
Course Overview:
This course is intended to serve as an overview of the more commonly occurring mosquito-borne viral diseases around the world, including arboviruses actively causing outbreaks within the United States (eg, Zika and West Nile virus). The epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and methods utilized for laboratory diagnosis of each virus are discussed and supplementary case studies are presented.
Objectives:
• Review the epidemiology of the more common mosquito-borne viral diseases (excluding malaria), including dengue, chikungunya, Zika, West Nile, and yellow fever, and the encephalitis-causing viruses, including St. Louis, Eastern Equine, Western Equine, and La Crosse.
• Describe the clinical manifestations and symptoms of the mosquito-borne viral diseases and encephalitis-causing viruses presented.
• Identify the laboratory methods available for the diagnosis of the mosquito-borne viruses presented.
• Solve case studies on the mosquito-borne viral diseases presented.
