Description:
The most fundamental aspect of determining underlying problems in edentulous patients is a thorough and accurate pretreatment examination and diagnosis. During the treatment planning stage for denture fabrication, the patient’s orofacial complex should be restored to an optimal state of health. Failure to achieve this may result in a therapeutically unacceptable end result. This article reviews the key factors that need to be addressed prior to the initiation of definitive prosthetic therapy.

Learning Objectives:
• Discuss the importance of VDO and mandibular posture in denture patients with regard to establishing and maintaining the health of supporting tissues, proper occlusal contacts, and facial esthetics.
• Explain the effects of poor oral hygiene and nutrition on the health of denture bearing tissues.
• Identify factors that may affect the retention of complete dentures and ultimately compromise their long-term success.

Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
