Journal CME/HeartRhythm Vol. 14, Issue 5: Revisiting pulmonary vein isolation alone for persistent atrial fibrillation: A systematic review and meta-analysis is organized by Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and would be held during Apr 25, 2017 - Apr 26, 2019.
The target audience for this medical event for all professionals who participate in the care and management of heart rhythm disorders. This CME Conference has been approved with a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
Course Description:
Early studies demonstrated relatively low success rates for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF). However, the advent of new technologies and the observation that additional substrate ablation does not improve outcomes have created a new focus on PVI alone for treatment of PeAF. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the recent medical literature to determine current medium-term outcomes when a PVI-only approach is used for PeAF.
Learning Objectives:
• Evaluate common ablation strategies and technologies used for treatment of persistent atrial fibrillation.
• Recognize the pathophysiology of common atrial arrhythmias, including differentiation between trigger and substrate.
• Identify predictors of recurrence following atrial fibrillation ablation.
• Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of meta-analysis.
